Take turns with your partner to ask and answer the questions given below. Explain to him/her why you think your answer is correct. Quote from the text if necessary. Write down your answers.
 
1.) How does Subhas’ uniqueness come out in his struggle for freedom? How does he differ from other national leaders? Give two examples.

Answer: Subhash Chandra Bose was different from other freedom fighters and his idea of fighting with military force made him unique among the freedom fighters of the time. When other leaders were finding a nonviolent way to fight with British, Subhash Chandra Bose was wanted freedom at any cost. He built the military force of 75000 men and women. He inspired them with intense patriotic fervour and a burning desire to free motherland.
 
2.) Subhas was a wonderful organiser. Give three examples for this.
Answer: Subhash was a wonderful organiser because he formed the Swaraj party, he travelled to South-East Asia and formed the Indian National Army to fight against the British and he raised modern army of around 75000 men and women.
 
3.) Subhas was an inspirational figure. Give three examples for this.
Answer: Subhash Chandra Bose inspired Indians with intense patriotism and a burning desire to free the motherland. He became the in charge of the publicity of the Bengal Provincial Congress Committee. And thus, he became the president of All India Youth Congress and Secretary of Bengal State Congress.
 
4.) Subhas was broadminded and spiritual. He worked for national integration and he was a man of vision. Give examples.
Answer: Subhash Chandra Bose was having very broadminded views on freedom and other social issues. He was naturally spiritual and to find the truth and the right “Guru” he roamed all over country. He was inspired by Swami Vivekananda and Aurobindo Ghosh and in Deshbandhu Chittaranjan Das was his political Guru. The ancestors like Mahipati Bose and Gopalnath Bose was the minister and naval commanders under the Muslim rulers of Bengal hence, Subhash Chandra Bose was well known with Muslim culture and in his autobiography he mention, “A Muslim one and our neighbours were mostly Muslims. I cannot remember ever to have looked upon Muslims as different from ourselves in any way, except that they go to pray in mosque.”
 
5.) Give an account of the sacrifices Subhas’ made.
Answer: Bose was having rebellious attitude. In Presidency college in Calcutta, he organised student’s strike to against an English Professor who insultingly pushed away an Indian student. And for this he expelled from the college. It was one of his sacrifices. He appeared for Indian Civil Service examination and he was fourth in the order of merit but his conscience didn’t allow him to serve the alien rulers as a high executive so he resigned from the ICS and returned to India it was another sacrifice of him. He has made many sacrifices for freedom.
 
6.) Give an account of Subha’s adventurous life.
Answer: Subhash Chandra Bose born in lawyer’s family and brilliant student. He was aware of social issues and fond to textbooks. In his childhood he came into touch with English people and their education and culture but he came back to Indian culture. Subhash was rebellious, he organised a student’s strike against the English Professor who had insultingly pushed away an Indian student. He stood fourth in the Indian Civil Service (ICS) examination, but not willing to serve British as high executive so he resigned from the ICS. Bose escaped from the British and reached Kabul and from there he went to Berlin via Moscow. Then he thrilled India with his voice on Berlin Radio. Subhash went to Japan when he World War II started and later, he went to Singapore and took over the leadership of Indian Independence Movement. He organized Indian National Army (INA) to fight against the British. He inspired the Indian soldiers and civilians by call of “Jai Hind” and “Dilli Chalo”.
 
7.)  Subhas worked in many different fields-administration, journalism, education, statesmanship and war. Give examples.
Answer: Subhash Chandra Bose was elected as the Mayor of Calcutta Municipal Corporation, he served as a High Executive in Indian Civil Service later in worked as Principal of the National College at Calcutta. He formed Swaraj Party, he travelled South-East Asia and organized the Indian National Army to fight against British. He built modern army of 75000 men and women. He initiated fight with British and liberated around 3200 sq.kms Indian territory from the well-entrenched British army.
 
 
D.) Word Formation

b.) Make six sentences using the verbs and the adjectives you have written.
Example: We gave the fruit to the monkey. The monkey ate the fruit. So we thought the fruit was eatable.
i.) A new teacher came to teach student. After the class we found he is teachable.
ii.) It is tough to teach student, you should keep learning to be teachable.
iii.) Let’s walk till the shop, it is a walkable distance.
iv.) The road was tough to walk though walkable.
v.) Do not rely on strangers; they are not reliable.
vi.) We can rely on technology, but its not reliable all the time.
