Answer these questions:

1.) Who began to climb up the ladder?

Answer: Moghul soldiers began to climb up the ladder.

2.) Why did the guards rush to the place and peep down the wall?
Answer:  The guards saw some soldiers climbing towards them so they rushed to the place and peep down the wall.

3.) What did the guards do to the ladder?

Answer: The guards pushed away the ladder and the soldiers on the ladder fell into the moat.

4.) What was the role of the dog in the event?
Answer: The barking of the dog attracted some more guards and in turn they stopped the enemies from coming within the portals of the palace. It was because of the faithful dog, the plan of the Moghul soldiers was foiled and Golkonda was saved.

Answer:  The old man gave many good things to eat to the brothers in the castle.

from the bottom of the lake where it was sunk.

B.) Answer the following questions in two or three sentences each: Sit in groups, discuss the answer and write them down.

1.) How did the two older brothers spend their time?

Answer: The two older brothers wasted their time and money and never did very much good in the world.

2.) Why did they call their youngest brother a simpleton?

Answer: They called their youngest brother a simpleton because he was quiet and simple. He was unlike them.

3.) What was the attitude of the two older brothers towards the three things they met on the way?

Answer: The two older brothers met three creatures i.e. ants, ducks and bees on their way. Both of them wanted to trouble those creatures. Their attitude towards them was to cause them trouble.

4.) What quality did the younger cousin brother show on all three occasions?
Answer: On all three occasions, the younger brothers showed his qualities of kindness and helping nature.

5.) How did the old man in the castle test the three brothers?
Answer: The old man initially led the three brothers to the table where he had kept all good food items for them. Then he gave the task to three brothers. The task was to find hidden thousand pearls lost by the king’s daughter.

6.) What were the three tasks set to the youngest brother? How did he manage to solve each of them?
Answer:  The first task given to the youngest brother was to find hidden thousand pearls lost by the king’s daughter. The second task was to bring the key of the princess’s sleeping room from the bottom of the lake where it was sunk. And the final task was to go into the room where the king’s three daughters were sleeping, find out who was the youngest and wake her.
In the first task, the ant king brought five thousand of his ants and helped him collect thousand of pearls.
In the second task, the ducks that he had saved, dived into the well and brought the key for him.
In the third task, the queen bee helped the boy. She sat on the lips of the youngest daughter who had eaten honey.
All the three creatures who were saved by the simpleton helped him.

Answer:  Simpleton said this.

b) What does the word ‘their’ refer to?

Answer:  ‘Their’ refers to the ants.

c) Why did he say so?
Answer: He said so because his brothers wanted to upset the ant-hill.

2.) “She quickly flew to each of the sisters and lit on their lips as if they were flowers.”

a.) Who is ‘She’ here?

Answer:  ‘She’ is the queen bee here.

b.) What did she do?

Answer:  She sat on the lips of the youngest sister who had eaten honey. c.) Who does she help here?
Answer:  She helps the simpleton here.

E.) Write out the attitude of the simpleton and older brothers towards the following:
Attitude of simpleton and elder brothers towards

a.) ant hill        –
Attitude of elder brothers- They wanted to upset the ant-hill. This shows that they had destructive attitude.
Attitude of simpleton – He let them go and asked his brothers not to spoil the nice house of the ants. This shows he was kind-hearted.

b.) ducks

Attitude of the brothers – They wanted to roast and eat of the ducks. This show they didn’t care for
anyone.
Attitude of simpleton – He requested them not to kill and let them live. This shows how caring was towards them.

c.) bees
Attitude of the brothers – They wanted to light a fire under the tree to smother and have honey. This shows their attitude of carelessness and insensitivity.
Attitude of simpleton- He couldn’t see them burn. This shows how sensitive he was.
